The Sciovia Awards
A distinguished programme celebrating the researchers who advance knowledge, mentor others, and serve the community β from the most promising newcomers to lifetimes of achievement.
The honours
Each award recognises genuine merit, judged fairly by a panel of researchers. No fees, no favour β only excellence.
Our flagship honour β for a researcher whose work over the year stood out for its quality, originality, and contribution to the field.
Celebrating an outstanding early-career researcher (within seven years of the PhD) of exceptional promise.
Honouring a distinguished researcher for a sustained body of work and an enduring contribution to knowledge.
For an outstanding publication or research contribution of exceptional rigour and significance.
Recognising research that has made a tangible difference to society, industry, policy, or the wider world.
For a mentor whose guidance has shaped and elevated the next generation of researchers.
The programme also honours Women in Research and Research Integrity & Peer Review, with new categories introduced as the community grows.
Every month Β· alongside the annual honours
Two monthly awards celebrating excellence in teaching and research β evidence-based, merit-only, and given only when genuinely earned.
For a notable, verifiable research contribution β a peer-reviewed paper, dataset, or patent from that month β judged on quality, rigour, and significance. The work must be linked.
For a documented teaching contribution β an open course or resource, a pedagogical innovation, or outstanding mentorship β supported by clear evidence.
β Evidence required β every recipient is tied to verifiable work, with a link.
β Reviewed by a panel against published criteria β no fee, no favour.
β One recipient per award each month, at most.
β Skipped when unearned β if no one clearly deserves it, we don't give it.
Recipients receive a certificate of recognition and a featured citation in the Sciovia newsletter and honours archive.

How it works
Anyone may nominate a researcher β or themselves. A short, honest case for the work is all it takes.
A panel of researchers evaluates each nomination on merit alone β no fees, no favour, no self-promotion.
Recipients are announced and honoured at the annual Sciovia Awards, and featured across the community.
Nominations
Sciovia members may nominate a researcher for any award. Every nomination is reviewed by the awards panel on merit.
